How the Matching Algorithm Works

StarMeet's compatibility engine uses a cascading waterfall scoring model across four analysis blocks. The first block, Individual Karma, evaluates each person's natal chart strength independently — if one chart shows severe afflictions, even perfect synastry cannot compensate. The second block, Planetary Synastry, examines cross-chart planetary aspects: how your Sun relates to their Moon, how your Venus aspects their Mars, and so on across all seven classical planetary layers.

The third block is Ashtakuta Harmony — the classical eight-factor matching system used in astrology for thousands of years. This includes Varna (spiritual compatibility), Vashya (mutual control), Tara (birth star harmony), Yoni (physical compatibility), Graha Maitri (planetary friendship), Gana (temperament — Deva, Manushya, Rakshasa), Bhuta (elemental compatibility), and Nadi (health and progeny). Each factor receives a score, totaling up to 36 points in the classical system.

The fourth block analyzes Subtle Factors: D9 Navamsha chart comparison, D1-D9 cross-analysis, Raja Yoga potential between charts, and Dasha timing synchronization. This block reveals whether two people are likely to meet and connect during favorable planetary periods.

Beyond romance, StarMeet analyzes multiple relationship dimensions. Understanding the Four Blocks of Analysis

Block 1: Individual Karma examines each person's birth chart independently. Key factors include the strength of the 7th house lord (marriage), benefic and malefic influences on the 7th house, Venus placement (for males) and Jupiter placement (for females), and Navamsha Lagna lord strength. If one chart shows severe 7th house affliction — such as Saturn and Rahu conjunct in the 7th — this lowers the overall score regardless of inter-chart harmony.

Block 2: Planetary Synastry performs a layer-by-layer comparison of how each planet in one chart interacts with the same and related planets in the other chart. The seven layers are: Sun-Sun (ego and identity), Moon-Moon (emotional compatibility), Mars-Mars (physical energy), Mercury-Mercury (communication style), Jupiter-Jupiter (values and philosophy), Venus-Venus (love language and aesthetics), and Saturn-Saturn (commitment and responsibility). Each layer receives a sub-score.

Block 3: Ashtakuta Harmony applies the classical eight-factor matching system described in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. The eight factors and their maximum points are: Varna (1), Vashya (2), Tara (3), Yoni (4), Graha Maitri (5), Gana (6), Bhuta (7), and Nadi (8) — totaling 36. A score of 18 or above is traditionally considered favorable for marriage, while 24+ is considered excellent.

Block 4: Subtle Factors adds advanced analysis: D9 Navamsha chart overlay (where both charts' Navamsha signs align), D1-D9 cross-synastry (one person's D1 with the other's D9), Raja Yoga potential between charts (combined prosperity potential), and Dasha timing synchronization (whether both partners enter favorable relationship periods simultaneously).

The Five Limbs of Panchang Explained

Tithi is the lunar day — one of 30 tithis in each lunar month, determined by the angular distance between the Sun and Moon. Each tithi spans 12 degrees of arc and has specific qualities: Nanda (joyful), Bhadra (blessed), Jaya (victorious), Rikta (empty), and Purna (complete). Knowing the current tithi helps in choosing the right day for ceremonies, business launches, and personal decisions.

Nakshatra is the Moon's current lunar mansion — one of 27 nakshatras spanning 13°20' each. Each nakshatra has a ruling deity, planetary lord, and specific qualities. For example, Rohini Nakshatra (ruled by Moon, deity Brahma) is excellent for starting new ventures, while Ashlesha Nakshatra (ruled by Mercury, deity Naga) requires caution in new commitments.

Yoga is calculated from the combined longitudes of the Sun and Moon — there are 27 yogas, each with distinct effects. Siddha Yoga is auspicious for achievements, Amrita Yoga is favorable for spiritual practices, while Vyaghata Yoga suggests caution. Karana is half of a tithi, with 11 karana types that influence the success of activities started during that period.

Rahu Kaal is a 90-minute inauspicious period that occurs daily, calculated based on sunrise time for your specific location. Activities started during Rahu Kaal may face obstacles or delays. How the Personal Day Score Works

Chandrabalam measures the Moon's transit position relative to your natal Moon sign. When the transiting Moon is in the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 10th, or 11th house from your birth Moon, Chandrabalam is favorable — activities initiated during these periods tend to succeed. When the Moon transits the 2nd, 5th, or 9th from your natal Moon, results are mixed. The 4th, 8th, and 12th positions indicate low Chandrabalam — caution is advised for important decisions.

Tarabalam evaluates compatibility between the Moon's current Nakshatra and your birth Nakshatra. The 27 Nakshatras form a cycle where certain distances are favorable (Sampat, Kshema, Sadhana, Mitra, Parama Mitra) and others are challenging (Vipat, Pratyari, Vadha, Naidhana). StarMeet calculates this in real-time to show whether the day's energy supports or challenges your natural rhythm.

Sade Sati is the 7.5-year period when Saturn transits through the 12th, 1st, and 2nd houses from your natal Moon. This cycle occurs roughly every 29.5 years and brings significant life restructuring. StarMeet detects whether you are currently in Sade Sati, identifies the exact phase (rising, peak, or setting), and adjusts your day score accordingly. During peak Sade Sati, the calendar suggests patience and reflection rather than aggressive expansion.

The activity recommendation engine considers all factors together. A day with strong Chandrabalam and favorable Tarabalam but Rahu Kaal in the morning might show: 'Good day for business meetings (afternoon). Avoid signing contracts before 10:30 AM. Ayanamsa Systems and Calculation Methodology

StarMeet uses the sidereal zodiac, which differs from the Western tropical zodiac by approximately 24 degrees — a gap called ayanamsa. The default ayanamsa is Raman (developed by B.V. Raman, one of modern astrology's most respected authorities). Other supported systems include Lahiri (Indian government standard since 1955), True Chitrapaksha (fixed star Spica at 180°), Krishnamurti (KP system), and Fagan-Bradley (Western sidereal).

The calculator uses three MIT-licensed astronomical libraries: jyotishganit for classical calculations (D1-D60, Dasha, Nakshatras), astronomy-engine for Julian Day conversion, tropical-to-sidereal transformation, and ayanamsa computation, and Skyfield for trans-Saturnian planet positions (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) using NASA/JPL ephemeris data.

Special conditions detected include: Vargottama (planet in the same sign in D1 and D9 — considered strengthened), Gandanta (planet in the 3°20' junction between water and fire signs — transformation point), Combustion or Asta (planet within a specific orbital distance of the Sun — weakened), Retrograde or Vakra (planet in apparent backward motion — intensified expression), and Digbala (directional strength when a planet occupies its preferred house direction).
